Local Employment - Saltech believes in hiring local technical skills in the area where its operations are located. All our general labour comes from Lupane. Where no technical skills exist we train local people. We believe training provides a sustainable skills base for our future operations and we invest heavily in it.
Reforestration - Our approach includes a reforestation plan that will be drawn up and we will work closely with the forestry department for the supply of seeds and trees.
Wood differs favourably from other materials in that it absorbs carbon dioxide while it grows. Carbon is not released into the atmosphere even after a tree is harvested but remains stored in wood products for up to hundreds of years.
Replacing fossil-based materials with wood can therefore help effectively reduce CO2 emissions, for example, in construction and furniture production. At Saltech we want to be at the forefront of making Zimbabwe a carbon positive country and we believe the timber industry has a large part to play in this.
We are a sustainable business with lots of potential to grow across Zimbabwe as we log, replant and provide employment opportunities to communities across the country. We currently work with various stakeholders including our local community, schools, Forestry office, local government and businesses to ensure we proactively grow Lupane together. We have built a sustainable model which we will recreate in various forest areas across the country and ensure Zimbabwes most renewable resource is sustainably processed into world leading timber and furniture products by a business designed to continue for generations to follow.
